Moving Out Shouldn't Be This Difficult...
Review Date: 3/1/2010 Reviewer: Anonymous
My year living at 10 South Boulevard with the Hollisters as landlords wasn't all that bad--until it came time to move out. Well, what I said about living there not being so bad is only partially true. Winter was terribly cold because the Hollisters "supply" the heat. Sounds great until winter rolls around and you realize that you have no control over the setting--and that your landlords are screwing you over. I believe it was below 60 degrees throughout the winter months. They keep the radiators turned off during the day. Fantastic. The fire escape was in disrepair for several months of my lease. One day I tried to take the trash out only to realize the door leading to the fire escape was NAILED SHUT. Had there been a fire in my apartment, I wouldn't have been able to get out of the door. I called the Fire Marshall about it. Completely unacceptable--and unsafe. The worst of it, though, came when my roommate and I were moving out. The power meters are located in the locked basement. In order to have your power turned on or to obtain you final reading you have to physically be present to let the power company in. The Hollisters were absolutely no help. It's my responsibility to be home to let in the cable company, not the power company. Why are the meters locked up in the first place? I don't understand. My roommate and I ended up paying the electric bill for this apartment until a new tenant moved in three months later. We tried to talk to the Hollisters about it, but they wouldn't pick up our phone calls. Stay away from this place and all other Hollister Enterprises properties. Save yourself the money and the headache. For $1050 a month you can do A LOT better. These people are slumlords. |
